
Shree Tara Band (STB) is the first female instrumental band of Nepal. The band was created in 2009 with the warm guidance and support of Ani Choying Drolma, NWF and Mr. Heribert Wirth. The group is dedicated to bring about changes by popularizing music that is founded on the bases of classical music and traditional family trends.
In addition, the band aims to uplift and enhance the role of women in music arena of Nepal. This band is a fusion of the dynamic culture and traditions of Nepal. The band also intends to bring changes in the general mind set of the people of Nepal and their view towards participation and contribution of women in the field of music.
Barta Gandharva (Sarnagi Playrer):
She is a student of Nepal Sangeet Vidhyalaya and also a student of Lalit Kala Campus. She has not only performed in Nepal but also has performed in Norway and China. In this band, she plays the instrument, “Sarangi” and also has an inborn talent in vocal.
Sarada Dongol (Percussionist):
She plays Nepali typical Skin Drum (Madal, Dholak, Dhime, and Tabla). She is a student of Ramesh Dongol and is highly inspirited by a renowned Nepali flutist Binaya Maharjan. She is also a member of “Smriti Band” and has done diploma in Pharmacy. She learned to play madal in her school days and took classes at Natyashwor Kala Kendra from Nuchhe Bahadur Dangol.
Sarmina Dongol (Flutist):
She plays "Bansuri/Flute" and had proudly performed with the popular "Kutumba" band of Nepal on a couple of occassions. She is a student of ramesh Maharjan. Besides flute, she can also play different Newari musical instrument like Dhimay, madak. Pachhima etc. She also displayed her talent in playing flute in performances like the New Orchestra show held at Bhaktapur in the year 2008.
Manju Nakarmi (Tabla Player):
She is a trained tabla player and has been learning tabla from Ram Hari Gurung for a long time now. She comes from a musical background as her father happens to be a musician too. She has completed her Master Degree in tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samitee, Allahabad, India. She has even composed music in a few Newari albums like Alikati Maya, Antarabhas Albumand has also been working as a music teacher in various schools.
